Ankle injuries are very common and can occur in athletes and non-athletes alike. The most common ankle injuries are ankle sprains and ankle fractures. While sprains occur due to an injury in the ligaments of the joint, fractures occur when the bones of the ankle joint are broken.
By watching this video, you can learn more about how to distinguish these two injuries from each other when approaching an injured person. The host of the clip also discusses what first aid procedures may apply to each injury.

Some women, when seeking medical care for an illness or screening test, can feel stressed, intimidated, or anxious during their time in the hospital. The team at Newton Medical Center understands our patients’ concerns, and has decided to incorporate women’s specific services into a specialized diagnostic and education facility. Our Women Diagnostic Center was created for the women of our community and is staffed by women to provide our female patients with a comfortable and peaceful medical process.
As a large part of our advanced women’s diagnostic services, Newton Medical Center has decided to upgrade to digital mammography technology. Like traditional film mammograms, this new technology is able to capture an image of the breast in the effort to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages. Digital technology, however, can provide immediate results without any need for image developing. The patient is exposed to less radiation and does not need to remain in an uncomfortable position for nearly as long. Ultimately, digital mammography provides women with a more pleasant diagnostic process.
Our diagnostic center also offers the following services:
- Image-guided breast biopsy. When an abnormality is detected on a digital mammogram, a biopsy of the abnormal tissue can be the only way to determine if surgery is needed. We offer both stereotactic and ultrasound image guided procedures to provide women with minimally invasive, accurate biopsy options.
- Bone densitometry. This advanced diagnostic modality can detect the early stages of bone loss and allow women to seek treatment when it is most effective.
- Breast MRI. These state-of-the-art imaging tests can help detect certain abnormalities in the breast that a mammogram may not show.
The Women Diagnostic Center at Newton Medical Center is located in the Physician’s Pavilion on Hospital Drive. Located in a beautiful and private facility, we are proud to offer this diagnostic center as a way for women to obtain the medical information they need in a more peaceful and patient-centered manner. If you would like to learn more about what our Women Diagnostic Center has to offer, contact our helpful staff at (888) 507-9146.
